The Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts is the new home of the Guilford College Bryan Series

For more than 20 years, the Guilford College Bryan Series has presented thought-provoking talks on relevant topics that matter to you. The experts we bring to our region are not just thought leaders; they are paradigm shifters whose ideas spark the next step forward and get us all talking about exciting possibilities.

Please note: All Bryan Series event attendees must provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 or a negative test within 72 hours before each event in order to attend Bryan Series events at Tanger Center. Wearing of masks in Tanger Center is mandated by Guilford County and will be observedthroughout the upcoming Bryan Series season. Tanger Center has implemented many safety features in our Patron Health Initiative.

Once again the Bryan Series has assembled an unsurpassed lineup for our season that opens in February 2022:

  • Yusef Salaam - an exonerated man who has discovered purpose in pushing for criminal justice reform,
  • Anne Lamott - a bestselling author who finds humor and hope on the other side of darkness,
  • José Andrés - a celebrated immigrant chef who feeds millions through his nonprofit,
  • Steve Martin - a comedian-turned-actor-turned-author-turned banjoist,
  • Rita Moreno - a lauded performer who has broken barriers for herself and the generations that follow.

A subscription is a reserved seat for all five events and is available in the Orchestra ($350), Grand Tier ($295), or loge ($250) sections. For the 2022 season, subscribers will have access to a video feed of programs from Tanger Center if unable to attend in person. Subscribers have seating priority with the opportunity in future seasons to renew and upgrade their seats before new subscription sales.

Guilford College Bryan Series 2021-22 Speakers

All programs start at 7:30 pm at the Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts

Prison reform activist, Yusef Salaam - Feb. 15, 2022

Yusef Salaam spent a decade in prison, wrongfully convicted for the brutal attack on a New York woman. Since he and others known as the “Central Park Five” were exonerated, he has educated people about failures and racial disparities in our criminal justice system. His memoir, Better, Not Bitter, is an inspirational call to right injustices.

Bestselling author, Anne Lamott - March 15, 2022

With humor and honesty, Anne Lamott uses her own experiences to tackle tough subjects — loss, disappointment, fear — but also the compassion, connections and faith that can lead us through dark places and into the light of hope. The author of several novels and essay collections, her latest book is Dusk, Night, Dawn: On Revival and Courage.

Celebrated chef, restaurateur, and humanitarian, José Andrés - April 26, 2022

Celebrated chef, restaurateur and humanitarian José Andrés believes we can use nourishing meals to empower people and rebuild communities. Tapping the same innovative spirit that earned his restaurants Michelin stars, Andrés formed World Central Kitchen. The nonprofit provides hot, fresh food after natural and humanitarian disasters, whether for laid-off workers during a pandemic or survivors of a building collapse.

Actor, writer, and musician, Steve Martin - May 10, 2022

Once best known for his distinctive comedy and acting roles in popular movies, Steve Martin has earned acclaim as a playwright and author and as a Grammy Award-winning bluegrass banjoist and composer. The arc of his long career is a lesson in the value of exploration, resilience and passion over a lifetime.

Star of stage and screen, Rita Moreno - May 17, 2022

Overcoming an impoverished childhood and racism and sexism in her career, Rita Moreno became a celebrated performer who has helped to break barriers for new generations of artists. One of the rare EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony) award winners, she is executive producer and plays Valentina in the 2021 “West Side Story” remake.
